In a significant development for Lafayette’s public safety, Mayor-President Monique B. Boulet has appointed Earl Borden as the new Fire Chief of the Lafayette Fire Department. This decision follows a comprehensive national search initiated in August 2025, aimed at identifying a leader with the experience and vision to guide the department forward.
The selection process was thorough, involving civil service testing, assessments by the Louisiana Office of State Examiner, multiple structured interviews, and a final panel review. The goal was to ensure the chosen candidate could uphold the department’s commitment to protecting life and property with professionalism and integrity.
Chief Borden expressed his dedication to the role, stating, “As Fire Chief of Lafayette, I look forward to working with department personnel, city leadership, and community stakeholders to build upon the department’s strong foundation while continuing to advance operational excellence, firefighter safety, and high-quality service to the citizens of Lafayette.”
Community leaders have shown support for the appointment. Pastor Sean Walker, a member of the selection panel, noted, “This process was thoughtfully designed and reflective of the Lafayette community.
